Updating Information Your Google Business Profile

All companies should keep up-to-date information flowing via their social media. They should also be updating information on their Google Business Profiles as frequently as they can so their customers will know when they are open and how they are operating, especially during the holidays or extraordinary conditions like shutdowns.

Updating Information as It Changes

If your business hours or operations change significantly, you should definitely report that to your customers on your website and your social media channels. Many social media platforms offer the option of pinning a post so that it’s most visible. Take advantage of this. If customers don’t know if your business is open, what hours it’s in operation, or how to reach you, they will get frustrated and move on to another option.

Google offers companies the opportunity to report all of their contact information as well as plenty of details about their products and services on their Google Business Profile page. If your company does not already have a Google Business Profile, now is the time to make one. Once you’ve filled out the “white pages” section of GBP, you will be able to create posts about any topic you deem useful to your business and interesting to your customers.

Google also added features to accommodate the COVID-19 quarantine restrictions. These updates, as well as any other posts, will appear when anyone searches for your business profile in Google Search or on Google Maps. You can inform your customers about:

  • Your current hours of operation
  • If your company is closed temporarily or experiencing delays in service
  • Additional products or services you are providing for the community

If your business temporarily closes for any reason, marking it temporarily closed will not affect your local search rankings. If you are open but in a lesser capacity than normal, you should not mark it temporarily closed because you will not be able to update your service or product offerings.
